IP Address Manager
IP Address Manager (IPAM) leverages an intuitive web interface to allow you to easily investigate IP address space issues. By scanning the network for IP address changes, IPAM maintains a dynamic list of IP addresses and allows engineers to plan for network growth, ensure IP space usage meets standards, and helps troubleshoot IP address conflicts. IPAM also allows you to manage and monitor your DHCP & DNS servers. Windows, Cisco ,ASA, BIND, and ISC are currently supported. l For more DHCP information see the following: DHCP Management l For more DNS information see the following: DNS Management
Common IPAM tasks
The following chapters provide common scenarios for using IPAM.

How IPAM Works
Using ICMP and SNMP calls to collect details from devices on your network, IPAM tracks and displays IP address usage, in addition to automatically marking IP addresses that are no longer in use. Additionally, WMI calls to DHCP and DNS servers are made to retrieve lease and scope details. Data is stored for tracking and auditing purposes in the database. All statistics are accessible using the Orion web interface. There are 3 scanning modes used to scan IP addresses:
> ICMP scan (ping sweep)
> SNMP scan
> Neighbor scan (using ARP tables)
Automated IP address management
Automated subnet discovery and IP scanning scours your network so you always know how IPs are used
Integrated DHCP and DNS administration
Find an open IP and make the DHCP reservation and DNS entries in one motion from a single console.
IP alerting, troubleshooting and reporting
Know when IPs conflict, subnets/scopes are depleted or DNS entries don’t match.
Easily delegate IP administration so systems and network admins can manage their own range of IPs.
IP detail and history tracking
Get the complete 411 on your IPs and how they have been used—even in the distant past.
Do away with IP tracking spreadsheets and IP conflicts
Work smarter and eliminate errors. Proactively find and fix IP conflicts in minutes.
Eliminate IP sprawl
Extend the life of your subnets and scopes by easily finding and reclaiming abandoned IPs.
Change admins, rights and roles, DHCP and DNS services, or network designs with minimal disruption.
Simplify Microsoft® DHCP and DNS administration
Make the most of your Windows® DHCP and DNS services by centrally managing everything from one console.
Manage change and resolve problems faster
Use automated tracking, histories, alerts and diagnostics to know where and how IP resources are used.
Reduce admin time to save Opex. Avoid costly proprietary and appliance-based solutions.
