Citrix XenApp is a licensed software product of Citrix Company which is a solution for application virtualization. This product is the result of the idea of accessing software through the network and internet. This is done through the ICA protocol and Citrix allows remote users to access the software in this way.
If we want to describe the operation of Citrix in a simple way, we must say that its features are very similar to the Terminal Service (Remote Desktop) of Windows, with the difference that instead of accessing the Windows desktop, Citrix only provides the software itself to the user.

What is Citrix XenApp?
XenApp is essentially just a piece of software or a group of pieces of software in its most basic form. Before becoming XenApp, Presentation Server, MetaFrame, and WinFrame were the names used for it.
With XenApp, you can install applications on a server and then access those applications on a client without installing anything other than the Citrix client software. The server handles all processing. Only mouse movements, keystrokes, and screen refreshes are transmitted between the client and the server, and the same is true for the other way around. Independent Computing Architecture (ICA), a proprietary remote display protocol developed by Citrix, is used for this. For the most part, users perceive the application as if it were running locally on their client operating system.

You have the choice of streaming the application to the client device or to a XenApp server when using application streaming.
