PLR License for Cisco Switch and Routers
Cisco’s routing and switching product line provides intent-based networking for the WAN, LAN, and cloud. Plus, these products include advanced analytics, application optimization, automated provisioning, and integrated security to deliver a complete proven solution. Also, as the largest enterprise cybersecurity company in the world, Cisco leads the way and provides simplicity, visibility and efficiency across your security infrastructure. when the device is shipped, some of its basic features are activated tough the more advanced capabilities require various Cisco licenses.
As you probably know, most of the Cisco products need licensing for full capacity operations. Cisco Smart Licensing works in a completely different manner compare with classic licensing. Instead of using PAKs or license files, Smart Licensing establishes a pool of software licenses or entitlements in a customer-defined Cisco Smart Account. The Smart Account provides a central location where you can view, store, and manage your licenses. With Smart Licensing, you control the level of security required for your environment. There are multiple options for usage reporting — Cisco understands there is no “one size fits all” approach when it comes to security. Customers may choose one deployment option or a mix-and-match approach of the various deployment options, based on what is most convenient for them. while, a lot of customers are migrating to Cisco smart licensing and using direct connection to Cisco smart software manager in order to register their products, some are not satisfied with this solution. These customers believe any outbound connection would compromise their network security. In some point they are right! So what can we do?
To address the mentioned challenges, Cisco has announced its Permanent License Reservation or PLR licenses. The Cisco PLR license enables all the device’s full capabilities permanently and with no need for any constant or periodic connection to CSSM. Currently, the following devices could support the Cisco PLR licenses:
