Currently, Cisco Secure portfolio supports smart licensing meaning that customers can purchase, monitor and manage their licenses from a centralized platform named Cisco Smart Software Manager or CSSM. The cloud-based smart licensing allows you to automate time-consuming licensing tasks. The solution lets you to simply check the status of your license and software usage trends.
Cisco Permanent Reservation License or Cisco PLR counts as a secure way for registering all product instances in highly secure environments which an outbound connection is not allowed. While Cisco smart licensing needs periodic connection between devices and Cisco smart license manager, Cisco PLR licenses provide offline, permanent and enable full capabilities. Cisco PLR licenses counts as an easy-to-use and intuitive solution which can be applied easily on different devices. Plus, it can eliminate all the concerns about Cisco Essential, Advantage and Premier license selection, with various features and expirations dates, providing a single authorization code which can enable all premium features permanently. However, enabling Cisco PLR solution can be a bit tricky on some of Cisco products like Cisco Secure FMC. For this matter you should follow our introduction and step by step guidance for each product. The Cisco PLR license is also known for the Cisco Universal license as well. You can find universal licensing dashboard on the product Web-UI and register the product using an authorization code given by Cisco partners.

Cisco Secure Firewall (formerly Cisco Firepower)
The Cisco Firepower Series Designed for the branches, large campus and data center. These appliances Quickly inspect encrypted web traffic, gain visibility across applications, detect and block network intrusions, deploy scalable VPNs, and integrated protection against DDoS attacks. These appliances can also perform with Cisco Firewall Threat Defense (FTD) image which is a unified software image combining Cisco ASA and Cisco Firepower feature into one hardware and software complete system. The Cisco PLR license should be applied on the FDM or FMC Web-UI in order to register your Secure Firewall instances.
Cisco Secure Firewall Device Management (formerly FDM)
Firepower Device manager can be applied through network when you have single firewall that need to be managed. It is an on box web base manager software that is running on your Firepower with FTD’s box natively. It contains workflows, diagrams and default configuration options. Cisco Device Manager is natively available on Cisco Firepower Firewall with FTD and is free to use. Applying a PLR license can only register your single Firewall being managed by FTD.
Cisco Secure Firewall Management Center (formerly FMC)
Cisco FMC is an administrative service to manage Cisco security products running on multiple platforms. The Cisco FMC provides unified management of Cisco Firepower with Threat Defense (FTD) software for port and protocol control, application control, IPS, URL filtering, and malware protection functions. Cisco FMC is able to manage all your network Cisco Secure devices and applying a single Cisco PLR license on the FMC can register up to 25 Firepowers in your network.
Cisco Identity Service Engine (ISE)
The Cisco ISE(Security Products) is a next-generation identity and access control policy platform that provides a single policy plane across the entire organization combining multiple services, including authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA). Cisco ISE also supports PLR license which can enable all its premium features forever.
