  • Fabric Path: Layer 3 routing features such as Load Sharing, Equal Path can be transferred to Layer 2 with this feature.
  • LISP: With this feature, a second address will be assigned to each node, and by changing the IP range between different data center sites, the policies of the previous site will be applied to the node in the new site.
  • VPC (Virtual Port Channel): With this feature, 2 switches are known as one switch in the network from the point of view of layer 2 protocols. So that the STP protocol no longer blocks a link between switches. Also, the physical disconnection of the link or the down of the switches does not cause any interruption in the network.

Cisco Nexus 5000 Series Switches

This series of Cisco products is suitable for the End of Row data center access layer. The Cisco Nexus 5000 Series (N5k) switches feature full support for Layer 2 and 3 features and VXLAN support for data center network expansion.

All models except the Nexus 5696Q (40Gbps) take up one or two units of rack space, while the Nexus 5696Q is larger and requires 4 units of rack space alone.

Cisco Nexus 3000 Series Switches

Cisco Nexus 7000 Series Switches

With these Cisco switches, end-to-end data center architecture can be presented on a single platform. Using this type of architectural structure, core, aggregation and access layers can be monitored. One of the advantages of Cisco N7k series switches (Nexus 7000) is the high density of ports with 10, 40, 100 Gigabit Ethernet bandwidth.

The main features of the Nexus 7000 series switches include support for FEX, vPC, VDC, MPLS and Fabric path. In addition, the N7K supports powerful and stable technologies for delivering DCI 5 such as OTV and LISP. Unlike the N7K, the N9K does not support these technologies for better stability. Instead, it supports newer DCI, VXLAN, BGP, and EVPN technologies that can be used to implement DCI site-to-site implementation.

The Nexus 7000 switches include two series of Cisco switches called the 7000 and 7700. It should be noted that the 7700 series, the newer version is 7000

• On the Nexus 7700, more bandwidth can be utilized for each slot. (1.3Tbps compared to 550Gbps)
• Better performance and support for 192 ports (100GE) 18 slots compared to 96 ports (100GE 18 slots)
• The Nexus 7000 comes in 4, 9, 10 and 18 slot models, while the 7700 Series comes in 2, 6, 10 and 18 slot models.

Cisco Nexus 9000 Series Switches

This series of Cisco switches are used in data centers. These switches are capable of operating in Cisco NX-OS Software or ACI 1 modes. The main features of the new Cisco Nexus 9000 series include support for vPC 3, FEX 2 and VXLAN platforms. There are some key differences between the Nexus 9000 and Nexus 7000 series switches.

Unlike the Nexus 7000 series, the Nexus 9000 series switches do not support ACI. On the other hand, Nexus 9000 switches do not support data storage protocols, while Nexus 7000 switches support these protocols. Also, Nexus 9000 switches like the Nexus 7000 series do not support VDC technology. Finally, the Nexus 9000 series is expected to complement the Nexus 7000 series to transform data centers toward ACI.
